Are you passionate about storytelling and eager to make a difference? The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA)*, the private fundraising and alumni relations organization for UW–Madison, is recruiting for a talented staff writer to join our vibrant Communications team.

As a Staff Writer, you'll have the exciting opportunity to craft compelling articles that highlight the incredible achievements of UW–Madison and its alumni. Your words will inspire and engage our community, while also supporting our vital development efforts. This hybrid position and will require you to work in our Madison, WI, office at least two days a week.

Who is WFAA?
The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association is a private, nonprofit corporation that encourages individuals and organizations to make gifts to the university and to connect with the UW. In 2014, the UW Foundation merged with the Wisconsin Alumni Association® to better serve a growing population of UW alumni and donors. We believe that private support grows out of good relationships between campus leaders, faculty and program staff who need support, and the alumni and friends who want to invest in UW–Madison. We provide important engagement opportunities to link UW–Madison alumni to each other and to their alma mater, building a strong community of Badgers.

Essential Functions

Journalistic Writing

  • Interview alumni, faculty, staff, and students to uncover their unique stories.
  • Craft compelling articles for WFAA’s print and digital publications, as well as its websites, that resonate with our audience.
  • Brainstorm and generate innovative ideas for articles that highlight the vibrant UW–Madison community.
  • Collaborate with the team to assist with editing and copyediting, ensuring high-quality content.

Development Writing

  • Create persuasive and heartfelt gift proposals that inspire donors to support our mission.
  • Partner with development staff to craft impactful donor communications that strengthen relationships.
  • Generate engaging story ideas through insightful conversations with development staff.

Marketing Writing

  • Contribute your creative flair to the marketing teams, helping to develop captivating content that promotes our initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 1+ writing/copyeditor related experience.
  • Experience creating content about diverse constituencies. 

Other Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, InDesign, and Acrobat.
  • Strong sense of initiative and understanding of marketing and journalistic concepts.
